£2 Punter Wins £412,961 on the Scoop6.

A single ticket managed to select all 6 winners of last Saturday’s Scoop6 races and that was placed as a single £2 line by a Coral shop punter in Nuneaton. Their prize was £411,959 for selecting the 6 winners and and extra £1,002 as their share of the place fund.

The lucky Nuneaton resident, in his 60s, will now get the chance to win the £878,562 Scoop6 bonus fund by finding the winner of a selected race this Saturday. Details of that race, and the other Scoop6 races, will be posted on this site on Friday afternoon.

Totepool spokesman Mark Pearson said “We are delighted a small staking punter has landed this life changing amount and if they can scoop the bonus next week it would take their winnings to £1,290,525 which would be a record for a British betting shop.”

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke to Simon Clare from Coral and said “I don’t always do the Scoop6 but I thought I’d have a go given how much money was at stake. I was working for the first three races, but then my daughter rang me to say they’d all won, so I watched the fourth and fifth races on telly, and then had to go out so followed the final leg on the Racing Post website commentary. When the final horse won I didn’t really know what to think and was amazingly calm.”

“I saw the Betfred PR man quoted saying a ‘lucky’ punter had won the Scoop6 and I thought to myself, I wasn’t lucky, I’ve managed to pick six winners out of six. That’s skill not luck. I’ve always been a punter. It’s in my genes as my dad was a bookies runner and my grandparents liked a flutter on the gee-gees, and I’ve been betting on horse racing since before I was 18.”

When asked about next Saturday’s shot at the £878,562 bonus, the successful punter said, “I have chatted with a pal who follows racing closely too and we expect that the bonus race will be the Imperial Cup. We agreed to keep an eye on what David Pipe is running. Martin Pipe always used to have something for the Imperial Cup/Cheltenham bonus and won the race many times so his son might have something lined up.”

The man has not made any plans how to spend the £412,961 he has won, or thought what he would do if he won the £878,562 bonus.

“My three daughters are already excitedly coming up with things to spend the money on but I have spoken to the wife and we’ll just put in the building society and decide from there. You come into the world with nothing and you leave it with nothing, so we’ll definitely use it to enjoy life and new experiences.” he concluded.

Simon Clare, who spoke at length to the customer, said, “He is the most deserving winner imaginable. He has been a regular punter for over forty years and an enthusiastic lifelong supporter and fan of horse racing. If you get out of life what you put into it, then it is entirely fitting that horse racing has rewarded this individual with a life-changing win. That said, as he pointed out quite firmly, this win wasn’t down to luck. He picked his six selections very carefully and his win was down to skill.”

If his luck, sorry, skill runs out and he fails to find the winner of the bonus race any winners of this Saturday’s Scoop6 will play for an even larger bonus next week.

Friday All-Weather Scoop6

Totepool have just announce that their flagship totescoop6 bet will now be available on Friday evenings taking in 6 all-weather races during the winter. It starts this Friday with win fund guaranteed to be worth at least £25,000 and a bonus fund of £75,000!

The ‘Friday Scoop6’ has the same structure as the Saturday Scoop6 but will be run as a separate pool. Winners of the Friday Scoop6 win fund who have correctly selected the winning horse in all 6 legs of the Friday scoop6 have the opportunity to select the winner of the bonus race nominated by Totepool the following Friday. Any customer who selects the winner of the bonus race qualifies for a dividend from the Friday Scoop6 bonus fund. All rollover amounts from the Friday Scoop6 will carry forward to the following Friday Scoop6. Any rollovers from the Saturday Scoop6 will continue to carry forward to the following Saturday Scoop6. At the end of the Friday Scoop6 season (currently 4th April 2014) any rollovers will be carried forward to following season’s Friday Scoop6. Races which make up the Friday Scoop6 will be selected and communicated the day before.

This Friday the Scoop6 will consist of six races for Wolverhampton and Dundalk. Full details of the selected races will be available here on Thursday.

Brent Dolan, Totepool Operations Director said: “Fridays evenings are popular in LBO’s and as such we have taken one of our most successful bets and will now offer customers a chance to win life-changing amounts on a Friday night as well a Saturday afternoon. With such a loyal following of all-weather fans and only a small risk of losing meetings to the elements, we are confident the Friday Scoop6 will prove to be a popular weekly bet.”

SuperScoop6 Rules Announced

Tote have now released the full rules for the SuperScoop6, a version of the Scoop6 that will be running at the festivals this year, starting tomorrow at Cheltenham. As my original post said the Super Scoop6 will be very similar to the Scoop6 with the main difference being how the shootout fund, the equivalent of the scoop6 bonus fund, will be played for and awarded.

Here is a quick overview of the differences to the Scoop6 that I’ve picked up form looking through the rules and other sources: –

  • The SuperScoop6 will usually run at festival meetings (Cheltenham, Aintree, Ascot, Goodwood and York) – the normal Scoop6 will continue to run on Saturdays.
  • Rather than a weekly bonus fund, anyone that wins one of the SuperScoop6 rounds during the year will play in a SuperScoop6 Shootout at the end of the flat season on Saturday 9th of November at Doncaster
  • The SuperScoop6 Saturday Shootout will comprise 3 races with all previous SuperScoop6 round winners trying to pick the winners.
  • Each ticket containing the winner of the first Shootout race will win an equal share of 5% of the Shootout fund, the bronze dividend
  • Each ticket containing the winners of the first and second Shootout race will win, in addition to the bronze dividend, an equal share of 20% of the Shootout fund, the silver dividend.
  • Each ticket containing the winners of all three Shootout races will win, in addition to the silver and bronze dividends, an equal share of 75% of the Shootout fund.
  • If the SuperScoop6 Shootout fund isn’t won it will be rolled over to the next season’s SuperScoop6 shootout as decided by totepool.

So, what do I think of this.. Firstly it’s a good time to remind you that this is really just a fan site for the scoop6, trying to make the bet more enjoyable for punters, so this is just my personal view and nothing to do with Totepool, Betfred or anyone else.

Overall I think it is a good idea. In the past they have tried running the Scoop6 at festival meetings and it didn’t seem to have got that much interest and I think part of that might have been down to details of the bonus fund not being clear. Those trials were back in 2008, I didn’t realise they were that long ago until I looked at the history on this site, so I think it is a good time to give it another go. With a strong push that this is something special for the festivals, and with the opportunity for a roll over during a festival to further boost interest, it could well work out well.

My only negative thoughts are: –

  • With a one meeting SuperScoop6 being very similar to a combined Jackpot and Placepot, will people go for the new bet rather than the other two? At the moment it is unclear if the SuperScoop6 will run on the first six races of a meeting, as the Jackpot and Placepot do, or will use a different six to make it different
  • When there is more than one ticket playing for a Bonus Fund they often team up to cover more runners and increase their chances of splitting the fund and it seems likely this will happen with the SuperScoop6 Shootout. I don’t know how this could be avoided but it seems likely to make it less exciting to watch from the outside. Having said that it might be better for anyone playing for it as they are more likely to get a share by teaming up.

I’m looking forward to the SuperScoop6 starting at Cheltenham tomorrow and hope you are too. I will be doing my best to continue to bring you the latest information on this bet and will add more information to the site as the final details come to light. Feel free to share you thoughts in the comments section below.

SuperScoop6 Details.

Tote have just announced details of the SuperScoop6, a version of the Scoop6 that will be running at the festivals this year, starting with Cheltenham.

It’s the Scoop6 with an exciting twist – for the first time ever the Tote’s flagship bet will run during all the major Festivals throughout the year including Cheltenham, Aintree, Ascot, Goodwood and York. The format of the bet will be the same as the Saturday Scoop6, the difference there is only one king size bonus fund at the end of the SuperScoop6 season.

Culminating in ‘Shootout Saturday’ on the last day of the flat season at Doncaster, featuring the Betfred November Handicap and two other races. All SuperScoop6 winners will be entered to play in ‘Shootout Saturday’ consisting of 3 races with the chance to win life changing money. The amount ‘Shootout’ players win will depend on if they pick 1, 2 or 3 winners.

Totepool are guaranteeing the SuperScoop6 win fund to £100k at this year’s Festival and the bonus fund on ‘Shootout Saturday’ is expected to be over a million pounds.

The bet will be available through all normal Totepool channels and Scoop6.co.uk will be updated with all the latest information as it is for the normal Saturday Scoop6.

New Scoop6 Site launched

This site has now been online for very nearly ten years, with the last seven of them as Scoop6.co.uk. Over that time it has been bringing the latest Scoop6 results to punters, helping keep them up to date with the progress of the bet and other news.

Over recent years more and more people have been visiting the site using mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, Android, etc) and so I have spent some time on the site recently to make it more friendly to use on smaller screens. I hope those users will find it a huge improvement but I have been careful not to change too much and the general features of the site are the same as before. There have also been a few tweaks behind the scenes to try to get the site updated even more quickly.

As with any change there is always a chance that something may be broken. I hope that isn’t the case and will continue running checks now the new site is live. If you do find an issue, or have any suggestions on how to improve the site, please leave a comment below.

Thank you to everyone that has found this site useful and has left nice comments over the years. It was set up due to a personal interest in the Scoop6 and because tote, then totesport, then totepool didn’t provide better data to users. Hopefully these changes will keep it popular for a few more years.

Good luck to everyone playing the Scoop6. I’ll get this weeks races up as soon as I get details.

Scoop6 Bonus Won

Eight tickets won the Scoop6 bonus today, picking up £39,434.55 each after the favourite won the Betfred Grand National Trial at Haydock.

Totepool spokesman Mark Pearson said “Congratulations to the eight punters who all be should be ‘Well Refreshed’ after the Gary Moore trained horse landed the gamble of the day.”

Meanwhile this week’s win fund rolled after Nick Gifford’s Kruilsilver landed a surprise in Leg 5 at Ascot. A total of £156,006 was bet into the pool and 103 punters picked up the place fund of £302.90.

Visit Scoop6.co.uk again next weekend for all the latest news on the Scoop6.

Punters Miss Out on Early Christmas Present

Cause of Causes winning The Ladbroke caused both the win and bonus funds to roll on this week’s totescoop6.

26 punters were chasing the bonus of £52,059 but no one selected Cause of Causes. The Gordon Elliott trained outsider also resulted in this week’s win fund rolling.

Totepool spokesman Mark Pearson said “Incredibly although we had 26 punters chasing the bonus only 7 horses were covered. The win and bonus funds roll onto next Saturday but we have a Festive Scoop6 on Boxing Day.”

A total of £134,060 was bet into the pool and there were 38 winners of the place fund which returned £705.50.

Totepool are operating a Festive Scoop6 on both Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Mystery Scoop6 winner found after search

Last weekend’s mystery totescoop6 winner has been found after Betfred boss Fred Done launched a nationwide appeal to try and find the owner of a betting slip which was worth £394,487.

Young mum Amber Galligan, 22, placed the £2 bet on the Scoop6 in a Betfred shop in Benwell, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne for her father who has arthritis. Thomas Galligan, 53, plays the bet regularly but didn’t realise that his initial selection – Vocational in the 2.25 at Ayr – was a non-runner and that this meant his pick then switched to the unnamed favourite – 7/2 jolly Angels Will Fall – which eventually won the race.

The pair became the first Scoop6 winners in the history of the bet not to come forward and failed to register in time to play for the extra £251,966 in the bonus fund but eagle-eyed shop staff spotted Amber when she returned to the shop on Saturday evening to place another bet.

“I was at the counter when the assistant told me they’d been looking for me and I knew he wasn’t joking as he was so deadly serious,” said Amber. “When he first told me that the bet had won I thought it was the place part and might have been a few hundred pounds, not hundreds of thousands of pounds. I was very shocked and couldn’t believe what he was telling me, but my dad’s been a fantastic father to us and deserves a change of luck. We live in a small two bedroomed council flat and my dad has awful arthritis and sleeps on the sofa. He’s going to buy a bigger house with the winnings and take us all on holiday. It will change all our lives for the better.”

Former builder’s labourer Thomas – a father of four who originally hails from Leith, near Edinburgh – said: “Amber is my angel – she and all my kids and grandkids mean the world to me. I don’t bet during the week, but do the Scoop6 when I can afford it on a Saturday. I thought my first horse Vocational had got beat and then I watched as the next five won – I knew there were 568 tickets going into the last race at Royal Ascot and only one on Dandy Boy, but I never realised I was the winner as I thought I was out in leg one. I’ve had years of pain and operations with arthritis in my legs and Amber and my son Michael pop down to the shop to place my Saturday bet. Our first priority with the win will be to buy a bigger place to live and I also want to take them all on the holiday of a lifetime. We don’t really do holidays as we have just enough to get by, so I can’t remember the last time we went on one – if ever.”

Betfred boss Fred Done was delighted to hear that Thomas Galligan had finally been found and was quick to praise his shop staff for their hard work. “We’re all delighted that we’ve finally found Thomas after a nationwide search as the amount he’s landed really will change his life for the better. I’d like to thank my shop staff and area managers for being so alert otherwise Thomas may still not know that he was sitting on a fortune.”

This weekend’s Scoop6 could be worth up to £500,000 after both the win and bonus fund rolled over on Saturday. There is currently £62,314 in the win fund and £278,202 in the bonus fund.

Are you a Scoop6 winner and don’t know it?

A Betfred shop customer who is sitting on a £400,000 windfall is being urged to come forward after landing last weekend’s totescoop6. The punter, who placed their bet in a Betfred shop in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, picked the six winners of the nominated Scoop6 races last Saturday and now has the chance to go for a further £251,996 in this weekend’s bonus race. However, the customer still hasn’t returned to the shop to collect the £394,487 they won on the bet which has prompted fears that the winner may not collect their winnings in time to register for the bonus race and hence miss out on the chance of taking their haul to over £650,000.

If the winning customer doesn’t come forward by 2pm this Saturday, they will miss their chance to go for the bonus fund which currently stands at £251,996. The bonus race will be the 3.20 Newcastle – the John Smith’s Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.

“Usually punters are banging my doors down to collect their winnings and I’m really worried that our Scoop6 winner may not actually know they’ve won,” said Betfred boss Fred Done. “I urge anyone who played the Scoop6 in the Newcastle area last weekend to check their tickets just in case they’re sitting on a massive windfall – especially as they only spent £2 on the bet!”

Under the rules of the bet, any selections made that are non-runners are automatically placed onto the eventual favourite and given the fact there were eighteen horses withdrawn across the six Scoop6 races last Saturday, there is a strong possibility that the winner may not have realised they have actually won.

Could it be you? Have you checked your selections weren’t non-runners? Here are the full results from last Saturday.

One lucky £2 punter lands £380,365 on Scoop6

One lucky punter landed this afternoon’s totescoop6 after Swincombe Flame’s victory in the EBF/DBS Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race Final landed them a total of £380,365.

The winner placed his Scoop6 in a Choicebet shop in Snodland, Kent and staked just £2 on the bet. Only the one ticket remained heading into the final leg and this means the winner now has the chance to add a further £277,417 to his haul when he goes for the bonus race next weekend which is likely to be the totesport.com Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter.

“It’s been an incredible week for the Tote and not only has Steve Whiteley become an instant millionaire for just £2 but a punter in Kent has won a fortune for the same stake on this weekend’s Scoop6,” said totepool spokesman George Primarolo. “This means over £1.8m has been won by two small staking punters in the past seven days and is a great advert for betting with the Tote just before Cheltenham.”

A total of £272,232 was bet into this afternoon’s pool and there were 63 winners of the bonus fund, each of whom picks up £864.20.

The totejackpot will operate throughout the Cheltenham Festival this week and there will be a guaranteed £100,000 in the win fund every day.
