The Tote is a pool betting system, commonly also refered to as Totepool. It is different from fixed-odds betting as customers bet into a pool with each other, and do not bet against a bookmaker. It operates more like a sweepstake or lottery but one where you can use skill as well as luck. When the result is known, the pool of money is divided up and paid out to those who picked the winner. This ensures that Tote is agnostic about the outcome of races and actively welcomes winning customers, unlike some fixed-odds bookmakers.
The amount each person wins is called the dividend and the amount you win depends on how many other people also picked the winner. Pick a winner that lots of other people chose and the payout will be less than if you find a winner that few others selected.
The simplest bet type. The aim with the tote win is to select the winning horse. If your selection comes first you will win a share of the prize fund.
With the tote place you will win a share of the prize fund if your horse is placed. The number of places that pay out depends on the number of runners and is detailed further down this page.
Select the winner and second horse in the correct order.
One step on from the exacta, select the winner, second and third horse in the correct order. This is the tote version of a tricast bet.
Pick two horses and if they both finish in any of the first three places you will be a winner.
Pick a horse to win in the first six races of a meeting and if they all come in first you will get a share of the tote jackpot pool. Jackpot Results
