The finishing positions which count as a place in any leg of the Placepot depend on how many runners are in the race.
Unless otherwise stated the counting places are: -
You have the flexibility to select multiple horses in each race to increase your chances of winning the Placepot. However, the more horses chosen, the higher the cost of the bet.
To calculate your total stake you can multiply the number of selections in each leg - or just let the Tote website calculate it for you as you make your selections.
For example if you selected 3 horses in the 1st leg, 2 in the 2nd, a single horse in the 3rd, 4th & 5th and then 2 in the last your total stake would be (3*2*1*1*1*2) 12 times your stake per line.
The minimum stake per line is just 1p and the minimum total stake is 50p when placing you bet with Tote.
If one of your selections is a non-runner, you stake will be move on to the starting price favourite. If there are joint favourites, then the selection will move onto the one with the lowest card number.
Find a few bankers - legs where you only select one horse. This will reduce your number of permutations and allow you to select more horses in the legs you are less confident about.
The big dividends come when favourites fail to place. Keep that in mind when making your selections.
