£2 Punter Wins £412,961 on the Scoop6.

A single ticket managed to select all 6 winners of last Saturday’s Scoop6 races and that was placed as a single £2 line by a Coral shop punter in Nuneaton. Their prize was £411,959 for selecting the 6 winners and and extra £1,002 as their share of the place fund.

The lucky Nuneaton resident, in his 60s, will now get the chance to win the £878,562 Scoop6 bonus fund by finding the winner of a selected race this Saturday. Details of that race, and the other Scoop6 races, will be posted on this site on Friday afternoon.

Totepool spokesman Mark Pearson said “We are delighted a small staking punter has landed this life changing amount and if they can scoop the bonus next week it would take their winnings to £1,290,525 which would be a record for a British betting shop.”

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke to Simon Clare from Coral and said “I don’t always do the Scoop6 but I thought I’d have a go given how much money was at stake. I was working for the first three races, but then my daughter rang me to say they’d all won, so I watched the fourth and fifth races on telly, and then had to go out so followed the final leg on the Racing Post website commentary. When the final horse won I didn’t really know what to think and was amazingly calm.”

“I saw the Betfred PR man quoted saying a ‘lucky’ punter had won the Scoop6 and I thought to myself, I wasn’t lucky, I’ve managed to pick six winners out of six. That’s skill not luck. I’ve always been a punter. It’s in my genes as my dad was a bookies runner and my grandparents liked a flutter on the gee-gees, and I’ve been betting on horse racing since before I was 18.”

When asked about next Saturday’s shot at the £878,562 bonus, the successful punter said, “I have chatted with a pal who follows racing closely too and we expect that the bonus race will be the Imperial Cup. We agreed to keep an eye on what David Pipe is running. Martin Pipe always used to have something for the Imperial Cup/Cheltenham bonus and won the race many times so his son might have something lined up.”

The man has not made any plans how to spend the £412,961 he has won, or thought what he would do if he won the £878,562 bonus.

“My three daughters are already excitedly coming up with things to spend the money on but I have spoken to the wife and we’ll just put in the building society and decide from there. You come into the world with nothing and you leave it with nothing, so we’ll definitely use it to enjoy life and new experiences.” he concluded.

Simon Clare, who spoke at length to the customer, said, “He is the most deserving winner imaginable. He has been a regular punter for over forty years and an enthusiastic lifelong supporter and fan of horse racing. If you get out of life what you put into it, then it is entirely fitting that horse racing has rewarded this individual with a life-changing win. That said, as he pointed out quite firmly, this win wasn’t down to luck. He picked his six selections very carefully and his win was down to skill.”

If his luck, sorry, skill runs out and he fails to find the winner of the bonus race any winners of this Saturday’s Scoop6 will play for an even larger bonus next week.

I’m still recovering from the experience that seemed to be all over in a blur. One winner after the other and I’ve since looked over the form again and I still wouldn’t have changed Smart Money ! A grand is nice though for the place but I can’t imagine my weekly £16 stake being as close again.
Congratulations to the winner and best of luck with the Bonus.

let’s be honest u have to be very lucky to hit 6 out of 6 winners..there may be some skill involved but it’s mostly a lottery when it comes to racing…90% luck to win jackpots like these.
