Each ticket holder banked £98,132 last week as they shared the whopping £686,925 win fund, but could boost their haul to more than £400,000 should they find the winner of the 20-runner Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury.
Among the lucky seven are two pensioner pals from Norfolk whose combined racing nous landed them a share of the win pool after staking just £24 between them. The pair, who met only four years ago, have booked a VIP table at Newbury tomorrow to soak up the atmosphere and watch the action unfold from the best seat in the house. Peter Riley, 67, and Richard Delf, 73, will attend the Berkshire racecourse with their wives Rosa and Bridget.
Peter said “We were at the Burlington Hotel in Great Yarmouth, which Richard’s family own and we just got chatting about horses. That was four years ago. Since then we’ve been racing together with our wives and we thought we might as well play the Scoop6 together. We put on £24 between us and will be splitting the winnings in half. It’s the first time we’ve won and it’s a fantastic feeling, I can say that. We have absolutely no idea, either of us, what we are going to do with all that money. We had an inkling the bonus race would be at Newbury so we’ve booked ourselves a nice table with champagne and all the trimmings. We thought we could celebrate there with the £98,000. Who knows? It could be even more but it will be very difficult to get a seventh winner for the bonus.”

Should the bonus hunters come up short at Newbury then the cash will be up for grabs next Saturday for anyone lucky enough to land tomorrow’s win fund, which kicks off with £93,522 in the pot. The six races are divided between Newbury and Newcastle.
