Mystery Scoop6 winner found after search

Last weekend’s mystery totescoop6 winner has been found after Betfred boss Fred Done launched a nationwide appeal to try and find the owner of a betting slip which was worth £394,487.

Young mum Amber Galligan, 22, placed the £2 bet on the Scoop6 in a Betfred shop in Benwell, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne for her father who has arthritis. Thomas Galligan, 53, plays the bet regularly but didn’t realise that his initial selection – Vocational in the 2.25 at Ayr – was a non-runner and that this meant his pick then switched to the unnamed favourite – 7/2 jolly Angels Will Fall – which eventually won the race.

The pair became the first Scoop6 winners in the history of the bet not to come forward and failed to register in time to play for the extra £251,966 in the bonus fund but eagle-eyed shop staff spotted Amber when she returned to the shop on Saturday evening to place another bet.

“I was at the counter when the assistant told me they’d been looking for me and I knew he wasn’t joking as he was so deadly serious,” said Amber. “When he first told me that the bet had won I thought it was the place part and might have been a few hundred pounds, not hundreds of thousands of pounds. I was very shocked and couldn’t believe what he was telling me, but my dad’s been a fantastic father to us and deserves a change of luck. We live in a small two bedroomed council flat and my dad has awful arthritis and sleeps on the sofa. He’s going to buy a bigger house with the winnings and take us all on holiday. It will change all our lives for the better.”

Former builder’s labourer Thomas – a father of four who originally hails from Leith, near Edinburgh – said: “Amber is my angel – she and all my kids and grandkids mean the world to me. I don’t bet during the week, but do the Scoop6 when I can afford it on a Saturday. I thought my first horse Vocational had got beat and then I watched as the next five won – I knew there were 568 tickets going into the last race at Royal Ascot and only one on Dandy Boy, but I never realised I was the winner as I thought I was out in leg one. I’ve had years of pain and operations with arthritis in my legs and Amber and my son Michael pop down to the shop to place my Saturday bet. Our first priority with the win will be to buy a bigger place to live and I also want to take them all on the holiday of a lifetime. We don’t really do holidays as we have just enough to get by, so I can’t remember the last time we went on one – if ever.”

Betfred boss Fred Done was delighted to hear that Thomas Galligan had finally been found and was quick to praise his shop staff for their hard work. “We’re all delighted that we’ve finally found Thomas after a nationwide search as the amount he’s landed really will change his life for the better. I’d like to thank my shop staff and area managers for being so alert otherwise Thomas may still not know that he was sitting on a fortune.”

This weekend’s Scoop6 could be worth up to £500,000 after both the win and bonus fund rolled over on Saturday. There is currently £62,314 in the win fund and £278,202 in the bonus fund.

Scoop6 Races for June 30th 2012

Tote have just released the Scoop6 races for this Saturday, 30th June. They are: –

Race 1 : 2.30 Newmarket
Race 2 : 3.35 Newmarket
Race 3 : 3.45 Chester
Race 4 : 4.15 Chester
Race 5 : 4.35 Windsor
Race 6 : 4.40 Newmarket BONUS RACE
(Please mention scoop6.co.uk if re-posting these details)

There was 1 winner of the Scoop6 last Saturday who won £394,487 from a £2 stake. The winner, who is believed to be a woman in her 20s, placed their bet in a Betfred shop in Benwell, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne but haven’t yet collected their winnings. They now have the chance to win a further £251,996 from the Bonus fund this Saturday but need to register by 3pm tomorrow and pick the winner of the 4.40 Fee Club Handicap at Newmarket. If they fail to win or don’t register, any winners of this week’s Scoop6 will get to play for a larger bonus fund next week.

With major doubts hanging over Newcastle’s Northumberland Plate meeting, this weekend’s totescoop6 takes in races from Newmarket, Chester and Windsor. The highlight sees a field of eight line up for the John Sunley Memorial Criterion Stakes where Hoof It will be a short-priced favourite to get off the mark for the season after finishing fifth in the Duke Of York Stakes at York last time out.

“We still haven’t heard anything from our mystery Scoop6 winner and we’re pinning our hopes on her returning to our shop in Benwell on Saturday so we can explain what’s happened,” said Betfred boss Fred Done. “However, I’d still urge anyone who played the bet to check their tickets especially if someone put the bet on for you last weekend.”

Are you a Scoop6 winner and don’t know it?

A Betfred shop customer who is sitting on a £400,000 windfall is being urged to come forward after landing last weekend’s totescoop6. The punter, who placed their bet in a Betfred shop in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, picked the six winners of the nominated Scoop6 races last Saturday and now has the chance to go for a further £251,996 in this weekend’s bonus race. However, the customer still hasn’t returned to the shop to collect the £394,487 they won on the bet which has prompted fears that the winner may not collect their winnings in time to register for the bonus race and hence miss out on the chance of taking their haul to over £650,000.

If the winning customer doesn’t come forward by 2pm this Saturday, they will miss their chance to go for the bonus fund which currently stands at £251,996. The bonus race will be the 3.20 Newcastle – the John Smith’s Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.

“Usually punters are banging my doors down to collect their winnings and I’m really worried that our Scoop6 winner may not actually know they’ve won,” said Betfred boss Fred Done. “I urge anyone who played the Scoop6 in the Newcastle area last weekend to check their tickets just in case they’re sitting on a massive windfall – especially as they only spent £2 on the bet!”

Under the rules of the bet, any selections made that are non-runners are automatically placed onto the eventual favourite and given the fact there were eighteen horses withdrawn across the six Scoop6 races last Saturday, there is a strong possibility that the winner may not have realised they have actually won.

Could it be you? Have you checked your selections weren’t non-runners? Here are the full results from last Saturday.
