There were 7 winners of the Scoop6 last Saturday who got £59,082 each! They will attempt to add another £133,781 to that by selecting the winner of this week’s bonus race, the 18 runner 2:40 Albert Bartlett Handicap at Ascot. If they fail any winners from this week will play for an even large bonus next time.

Saturday’s scoop6 starts with £53,512 in the win fund and takes in action from Ascot, Haydock and Kempton. All six races are live on Channel 4.

Among the seven lucky ticket holders are three Betfred punters, two of whom remarkably live within a stone’s throw of one another in East Kilbride, Scotland.

The first is a 58-year-old taxi driver who has been playing the Scoop6 since its launch over 17 years ago in July 1999. He had never been remotely close to landing the bet in all that time, but that all changed last Saturday after staking the minimum amount of £2. The punter, who plans on treating his family to a holiday in Blackpool to celebrate, said: “I’ve been chasing the Scoop6 since day dot and I still can’t believe I finally did it. The Scoop6 is perfect for small punters like myself and I honestly believe it’s the best bet in racing. I’m a big fan of Mark Johnston and James Doyle. They did me a few favours last Saturday so I already have my eye on Muhadathat and Dawaa in the bonus race.”

The second winner to hail from what could be the luckiest postcode in Scotland – G75 – is a retired electrical engineer. He placed his £2 straight line at betfred.com and plans to spend his winnings on his two sons and a trip of a lifetime to China with his wife. Remarkably, his great niece works in the local Betfred betting shop and served the other East Kilbride winner when he came in to claim his prize. The 69-year-old online punter said: “It’s been a fantastic week and I’m still bouncing from Saturday. I love my racing and this is my biggest win by miles. I didn’t watch any of the Scoop6 races live so it was a huge surprise when I checked the results in the newspaper on Sunday afternoon. I’m really looking forward to the bonus race. I’m obviously delighted with the money I’ve won but another £130,000 wouldn’t do any harm!”

The third small staking Betfred winner is a 73-year-old man from East Sussex. A self-confessed form addict, the former banker staked just £8 and watched the action unfold from his armchair on Channel 4 last weekend. The retiree isn’t a regular Scoop6 player, but found last week’s bet too tempting to resist, saying: “I usually play the toteplacepot but I liked the look of the Scoop6 races so thought I’d have a crack. “Never in a million years did I expect to get all six winners so it was one heck of a buzz when Platitude cantered in at Goodwood. I’ll be booking a big holiday to the States to celebrate but frankly it’s difficult to concentrate on anything but the bonus at the moment. I’m a form man through and through, so I’ll get my head in the Racing Post on Saturday morning and hope I can find the winner!”

totepool spokesman Andrew Griffiths said “It was terrific to see three Betfred punters win a lumpy sum last Saturday after staking just £12 between them. We wish all seven bonus hunters the best of luck at Ascot, but we’ll be cheering on our Betfred customers extra loudly.”
